Fans of comics, storytelling and gaming, the Ignite team created an innovative match graphics system and a cinematic title sequence set in an imagined underwater world deep in the Pacific Ocean.
The team designed ocean dwelling beings, inspired by the myth and legend of each competing Pacific nations team. The titans are Tangaloa for Tonga, Dakuwanga for Fiji, Watatsumi for Japan, Poseidon for the USA, Losi for Samoa and Sedna for Canada.
The fantasy narrative sees statues of each reimagined titan come to life, team up and unleash the tournament ball upon the world from the depths of the Pacific. Each titan was carefully researched and crafted to create a unique statue embellished with cultural references.
The fast-paced title sequence required meticulous blocking due to its short duration, its pace driven by bespoke music with an EDM style blended with Pacific instrumentation; including a distorted conch shell and log drumming percussion to accompany.
The match graphics utilise the blue energy from the title sequence as a spot colour to draw the eye to team data and game stats. Subtle caustic textures and a frosted glass finish to the data panels, create a unique match graphics system designed to stand apart from others in the category.
This unique match graphic system has innovative touches with the score ticker’s centralised tournament badge becoming a window for key messages regarding the live game-play.
